Saving Human Beings From Sin And Its Consequences

Christian Salvation

In Christianity, salvation (also called deliverance or redemption) is the “saving of human beings from sin and its consequences, which include death and separation from God” by Christ’s death and resurrection, and the justification following this salvation.

For the individual, salvation means being rescued by God from the consequences of our wrongdoing. God created humanity to have a close relationship with him. And he created a perfect world for us to live in. But our relationship with God was wrecked when humanity opted to defy God.

Gift of Salvation

The gift of salvation should not be taken for granted — it is true that Christians do not need to work for salvation, however, as Paul said, we have to work out salvation with deep reverence and fear (Philippians 2:12).

Salvation is given by God’s grace, not earned by human merits (Ephesians 2:8-9). A Truly Born-Again Christian Cannot Lose Salvation.

Christian Doctrine

A definition of the Christian doctrine of salvation would be “The deliverance, by the grace of God, from eternal punishment for sin which is granted to those who accept by faith God’s conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus.” Salvation is available in Jesus alone (John 14:6; Acts 4:12) and is dependent on God alone for provision, assurance, and security.

Salvation is a Process

Receiving salvation through Jesus Christ isn’t the end of the process of being saved. It is the beginning of a lifelong process of being continually shaped into the people that God intends us to be. This means becoming more and more like Christ, something we do in grateful thanksgiving for our salvation. As we become more like Christ, God works through us to share Christ’s love and grace with the world.

Salvation is the free gift that God offers to us. Our lives, lived in a manner that pleases God, are our offerings of thanksgiving back to God. We are saved so that we can carry out the purpose for which God has us on earth: to share the good news of God’s grace and to be the hands and feet of Christ in this world, showing God’s love through our actions.
